City Couples Online Therapy | Emotional Distance

Emotional Distance

Are you going through the motions day after day, but the connection that brought you together seems long gone?

Over time, a couple can become unaware of one another, consistently taking each other’s presence, and commitment, for granted.

We can help.

You and your partner used to be a team.

But, lately, and for a while, now, you feel alone. You are both doing your own thing. In fact, you’ve given up on trying to get on the same page.

While you are both satisfied with other areas of your life: friendships, career, or family, you’re distressed when you take the time to reflect on the state of your connection.

You are not alone.

Distance can easily creep its way into good, loving relationships due to busyness, distraction, and stress.

The good news is: Our CityCouples™ expert therapists can help.

About Couple Therapy for Emotional Distance at CityCouples™

Emotional distance in marriage, and in couples, is very common. For most couples who seek therapy, emotional distance is either the main problem, or part of the problem. We know how to help.

Therapy at CityCouples™

We work carefully with each partner and couple to understand the history of your relationship, how you got to where you are, and how you would prefer to be together.

For emotional distance, we recommend at least eight sessions. Then, with your therapist, you’ll evaluate whether or not further sessions are necessary.

Our Therapy Process

Week One: 90-minute Online Welcome Therapy Session

During this session, your therapist will review information you’ve shared in questionnaires provided to you when you scheduled your initial appointment, and answer your questions. You and your therapist will discuss the history of your relationship, as well as any outside factors that may be influencing your current reality. Your therapist’s main goal is to listen and understand your specific situation. During the final moments of this session, you’ll express your goals for the relationship, and any concerns that you have moving forward. Together with your therapist, you will decide on a therapy path, including number, frequency, and length of sessions.

Week Two through Closing: 60-90 minute Online Couple Therapy Sessions

You and your therapist will work together to address the experience of emotional distance in your relationship. This includes:

  • How you each see and experience the distance

  • How you each contribute to the distance

  • How you are currently getting your emotional needs met

Through the process of therapy, you will learn:

  • How to communicate your needs to one another

  • How to express your feelings, even for the small things

  • How to be present with each other

  • How to change unhelpful communication patterns

  • How to invite one another into closeness

Closing: Final One-Two Therapy Sessions

Once couples reach this stage, they are able to articulate that the problem that brought them to CityCouples™ has been solved. During these final sessions, you as a couple, along with your therapist, will review the progress that you’ve made since session one. You will also develop a plan for moving forward, so that you continue to feel confident about your relationship after therapy ends.

You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your level of satisfaction with the therapy work you’ve done, and to provide feedback. In fact, throughout therapy, your therapist will make sure that you are making progress and will request your ongoing feedback.
