City Couples Online Therapy | Infidelity and Betrayal Recovery

Infidelity and Betrayal

Discovering infidelity is devastating.

It can overwhelm your emotions, which makes it difficult to make wise decisions. At CityCouples™, a therapist who specializes in infidelity, affair, and betrayal recovery will guide you in figuring out what this means for your relationship and your future. Working with a professional as soon as possible is crucial.

Couples who choose therapy in the aftermath of an affair often report having a better relationship after therapy, than they had before the affair.

Communicate

Communication is challenging, at best, after betrayal. Having someone help you talk to one another is oftentimes, in and of itself, a healing experience.

Understand

It is often essential for both partners to understand how and, to some degree, why the infidelity occurred. This allows you to make meaning as a couple about this disorienting event in your relationship.

Recover

Most couples who work with us are able to restore trust and joy after infidelity. Some couples and/or partners discover, through the process of therapy, that reconciliation is not right for them. We help you recover—whatever that means for you.

About Couple Therapy for Infidelity and Betrayal Recovery at CityCouples™

Therapy for infidelity is for couples who have experienced a betrayal in their relationship--however they define “betrayal.” The following are examples that couples may consider unfaithful behavior:

  • Kissing, or flirting, with a third party

  • Use of pornography

  • Developing an emotionally close relationship via text, or social media

  • A one-night stand

  • Breaking agreed-upon rules for “stepping out” of the relationship

  • Sexual addiction, including soliciting prostitutes

The definition of betrayal and infidelity is different for each person and couple.

Therapy at CityCouples™

At CityCouples, we work carefully with each partner and couple to help them understand the past, and access a vision for their relationship.

For betrayal recovery, we recommend weekly sessions (at least), for a minimum of three months.

Our Therapy Process

Week One: 90-minute Online Welcome Therapy Session

During this session, your therapist will review information you’ve shared in questionnaires provided to you when you scheduled your initial appointment, and answer your questions. You and your therapist will discuss the history of your relationship, as well as any outside factors that may be influencing your current reality. Your therapist’s main goal is to listen and understand your specific situation. During the final moments of this session, you’ll express your goals for the relationship, and any concerns that you have moving forward. Together with your therapist, you will decide on a therapy path, including number, frequency, and length of sessions.

Week Two through Closing: 60-90 minute Online Couple Therapy Sessions

You and your therapist will work together to address the experience of infidelity in your relationship. This includes:

  • Whether or not to tell loved ones

  • How to communicate with one another about the infidelity

  • How to create boundaries

  • Steps to restoring trust and accountability

  • Dealing with anger, resentment, and fear

  • Sexual and emotional intimacy in your relationship

  • And more

Recovering from infidelity is a delicate process that requires therapists who have specialized experience and training. Whether your goal is to stay together and restore trust, or to understand how you feel and what you want, we are here to help

Closing: Final One-Two Therapy Sessions

Once couples reach this stage, they are able to articulate that the problem that brought them to CityCouples™ has been solved. During these final sessions, you as a couple, along with your therapist, will review the progress that you’ve made since session one. You will also develop a plan for moving forward, so that you continue to feel confident about your relationship after therapy ends.

You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your level of satisfaction with the therapy work you’ve done, and to provide feedback. In fact, throughout therapy, your therapist will make sure that you are making progress and will request your ongoing feedback.
