City Couples Online Therapy | Couples Living Apart

Living Apart, Together

Many couples choose to live apart, while being together, for either career, or personal reasons. LAT couples enjoy the benefits of closeness and distance, at their discretion. Most LAT couples, however, must navigate the details of what it means to be together, while living apart some, or most, of the time.

That’s how we can help.

Types of Living Apart Together (LAT) Couples

You want to be in a partnership. You want to have personal freedom.

You love your partner, and you also want to pursue your career—wherever it takes you.

You’ve been divorced, or widowed. You’ve found a wonderful partner, but you don’t want to live with someone again.

You are engaged, and planning to get married. You want to discuss living apart with your partner.

About Therapy for Living Apart, Together Couples at CityCouples™

City Couples Online Therapy | Living Apart Together Couples

Living apart together couples are growing in number in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and beyond.

Therapy at CityCouples™

At CityCouples™ we work carefully with each partner and couple to understand what is bringing you to therapy, and how you can move forward, together.

For living apart together couples, we will recommend a specific number of sessions, after your initial welcome session. Many LAT couples need only a few sessions to negotiate their needs and express their concerns.

Our Therapy Process

Week One: 90-minute Online Welcome Therapy Session

During this session, your therapist will review information you’ve shared in questionnaires provided to you when you scheduled your initial appointment, and answer your questions. You and your therapist will discuss the history of your relationship, as well as any outside factors that may be influencing your current reality. Your therapist’s main goal is to listen and understand your specific situation. During the final moments of this session, you’ll express your goals for the relationship, and any concerns that you have moving forward. Together with your therapist, you will decide on a therapy path, including number, frequency, and length of sessions.

Week Two through Closing: 60-90 minute Online Couple Therapy Sessions

You and your therapist will work together to find solutions for couple conflicts. You may discuss:

  • What in your arrangement is unclear, or needs clarifying?

  • Who needs what, and how often?

  • What is working, or not working, for each of you?

Through the process of therapy, you will learn:

  • How to negotiate your needs effectively

  • How to create a partnership, that fulfills you both

  • How to discuss tough subjects, like sex, finances, and quality time.

  • How to handle differing levels of commitment or desire for closeness

Through therapy, you will establish a plan for your partnership that meets your needs and will carry you into the future.

Closing: Final Therapy Session

Once couples reach this stage, they are able to articulate that the problem that brought them to CityCouples™ has been solved. During this final session, you as a couple, along with your therapist, will review the progress that you’ve made since session one. You will affirm how you’d like to move forward as a couple.

You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your level of satisfaction with the therapy work you’ve done, and to provide feedback. In fact, throughout therapy, your therapist will make sure that you are making progress and will request your ongoing feedback.
