Spirituality-Focused Therapy
for Couples
Many of our clients seek spiritually-centered therapy not because they are going through struggles in faith, but rather, because they seek to find common ground, or increase their faith partnership. We work with couples who identify as spiritual, or religious.
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
—Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
About Spirituality-Focused Therapy at CityCouples™
All couples go through struggles. Your faith has been a strength for you individually, and as a couple, and it can continue to be through relationship distress.
You may not be in distress, and may be seeking therapy to grow as a couple, or to grow spiritually, together. We would be happy to work with you on this path!
At CityCouples™, we integrate the spiritual beliefs and needs of all our clients. We have therapists who identify as spiritual, as well as therapists who identify as Christian, Jewish, and Muslim. Our therapists are able to integrate the worldview of faith into couple therapy.
Your therapist will discuss to what degree (if at all) you wish to incorporate faith and spirituality into your sessions, during your initial welcome session.
Therapy at CityCouples™
We offer expert therapy to couples with a wide range of relationship concerns. To learn more about what we offer, visit the services section of our website, via the top navigation menu.
Our Therapy Process
Week One: 90-minute Online Welcome Therapy Session
During this session, your therapist will review information you’ve shared in questionnaires provided to you when you scheduled your initial appointment, and answer your questions. You and your therapist will discuss the history of your relationship, including your individual and collective faith history. Your therapist’s main goal is to listen and understand your specific situation. During the final moments of this session, you’ll express your goals for the relationship, and any concerns that you have moving forward. Together with your therapist, you will decide on a therapy path, including number, frequency, and length of sessions.
Week Two through Closing: 60-90 minute Online Couple Therapy Sessions
You and your therapist will work together to address your relationship concerns. In terms of incorporating a faith worldview, your therapist may address the following, if relevant to your circumstances:
Assess your current relationshp with faith and/or spirituality, and how it interacts with you as a couple
Assess your commitment level to one another, at this stage, and any associated fears or concerns
Evaluate your current support systems
Discuss any crises, or transitions, of faith you may be experiencing
Invite you to consider possibilities and hope
And, generally incorporate the principles of your belief system, to the degree you desire
Closing: Final One-Two Therapy Sessions
Once couples reach this stage, they are able to articulate that the problem that brought them to CityCouples™ has been solved. During these final sessions, you as a couple, along with your therapist, will review the progress that you’ve made since session one. You will also develop a plan for moving forward, so that you continue to feel confident about your relationship after therapy ends.
You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your level of satisfaction with the therapy work you’ve done, and to provide feedback. In fact, throughout therapy, your therapist will make sure that you are making progress and will request your ongoing feedback.
